Drop.IO (Upadate 8-20-10)

*Drop has a new Firefox Extension that makes moving files easy. Check it out at their website. Drop
*Set Drop to expire up to one year.
*Web conferencing and chat

DropIO is a simple, but pretty cool site. It allows you to share pictures, audio, video and documents securely. Drops are not searchable via the internet. This great for individual exchanges or with a group. With the free account you get 100MB of storage ($10 gets you 1GB for a year). You don't have to sign up, and you can make the drop last anywhere from a week to a year. You can create an Admin password if you want continued access to your Drop. Drop allows you to set up free conference calls and receive free faxes (you must have an Admin log in for this feature). With your drop number and pin access you can also get messages and they will be saved to your account as a MP3 file.

You can send files to Drop via email or MMS text messaging, and with the admin feature you can give out a password to share with your friends. So how can this help you? Most email services put at 20MB limit on attachments so this is a great way to move a file to someone. Next having a way to receive faxes without a fax machine is another cool item. Need to leave a number, but don't want to give out your own. Use your Drop number to receive messages. I've been using this for about two weeks now and I really like it. Until next time peace.

Waker Upper

If you love that hotel morning wake up call then try Waker Upper. Just register and add your telephone number and your on your way. You can set a voice message or a text to speak message.

You can set the phone call to repeat daily, weekly, or weekends. It's straight forward and you can add more than one phone number also. I used it to give my wife a wake up Happy Mother's Day call and she loved it. As always with most of the themes here at the Madden Corner it's free!

Trapster

For those of you with a heavy foot this is for you. Trapster allows it's user in real time to mark the location of police speed traps, camera lights and such. All this is accomplished by the GPS on your mobile phone (If you have GPS). Just go to the website and sign up. Then download the "free" program to your mobile phone. When you have Trapster activated it will give you audio alerts when you are approaching an area that has been report as a speed trap. On the website you can mark known areas, vote on the credibility of speed traps, and remark or change traps that you have submitted. So the more users that are on the system the better. I think it is definitely worth a try.

SlyDial

Slydial is a new service that is currently in the alpha test phase. Slydial will connect you directly to anyone's mobile voice mail when you call 267-SLYDIAL (759-3425) without ringing the phone. The service is free, but supported by advertising. Before they connect your phone call, you will hear about a five second ad. It wasn't bad, and if you just want to leave a message and not talk to the person it's worth. The 267 area code is located in Pennsylvania.

I'm sure this will take the dating game to a whole new level. "I'm sorry baby I called you, but it just went to voice mail." Give it a try and let me know what you think.

DDN Mobile

First off a big thanks to all of you that have subscribed to the blog. I appreciate it. Keep passing it along. DDN Mobile is something I've been using a while. It's not free unfortunately, but it's only 2 bucks a month. For that 2 dollars you can make all the ring tones you want from the music you already own. Just upload your song and crop the exact part you like. I don't know about other carriers, but Sprint at least charges a $1.99 per ring-tone, and from my experience it's not always the part of the song I want. So for the ability to make unlimited ring-tones I think it's a pretty good deal.

After completing the song you have the option to go directly to the site and get the song from the download queue (for all you mobile internet users) or you can have it send a direct link to your phone via text message and download it that way. Other options include changing the bit rate of the song, increasing the volume and choosing between CD and Radio quality. Be carefully with adjusting the volume, you could bust your speakers if you made it to loud. A 10% change should be sufficient for a little extra sound. Which is what i do.

The next cool part is, if others have decide to share there ring-tones you can download them. Less work for you. Just search for what your looking for. You can also find games, wallpapers, and applications as well (if they are compatible with your phone). Also if you don't see your phone don't worry, just find one that's close to yours and it should work just fine. That's what I had to do with my Samsung MM A900, but now I own the HTC Mogul. As always I hope you enjoy this and find it useful.
